  • A Celebration of Life Services for Dorothy M. Anderson, 92, of St. James, Minnesota, formerly of rural Ormsby will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Waverly Lutheran Church in rural Trimont, Minnesota with Pastor Gerald Giese officiating. Burial will be in the Waverly Lutheran Cemetery.

  • Dorothy Marie  Sodeman was born January 14, 1921 to Fred and Amanda (Mumme) Sodeman in South Branch Township, Watonwan County,  Minnesota.  She was baptized and  confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in South Branch where she also attended parochial school until the 9th grade.  She then worked for physicians as their housekeeper in Mankato and later Sioux City.  Dorothy was united in marriage to Clair Anderson on September 27, 1941 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in South Branch.  After their marriage, they farmed in rural Ormsby until their retirement and continued to live there doing yard work and gardening.  As a couple, they enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona for twenty-five years, fishing in Minnesota and Canada, doing square and ballroom dancing anywhere, traveling in the US and abroad, especially to Norway and playing golf at Fox Lake County Club.  They were married fifty-seven years.  Dorothy was active in Waverly Lutheran Church in bible studies, circles and quilting projects.  She was also active in garden club and extension groups.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting and was a wonderful cook for family and friends.  She loved attdending all events in which her grandchildren participated.  She will be remembered for her determination, her lovely flowers and her sharp insight to solve problems.  In 2009, she moved to Pleasantview Good Samaritan Home in St. James where she continued to pay cards and do the crossword puzzles until her death.                                    She is survived by her sons, Douglas (Sibyl) Anderson of St. James, Minnesota and Keith Anderson of Brittan, South Dakota; daughter, Julie Bro of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchiledren; four great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bernice Anderson of St. James, Minnesota and Thelma Wassman of Trimont, Minnesota; nieces and nephews and other relatives.                  Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clair Anderson; infant daughter, Lori Jean; sister, Lillian Swanson; brother, Norman Sodeman; brothers-in-law, Orville Swanson, Sandford Anderson, Marion Gaalswyk and Ervin Wassman; sisters-in-law, Merle Gaalswyk, Corrine Swanson and Dorothy Sodeman; daughter-in-law, Carolann Anderson and other relatives.                  Special “thank-you” to all the caring staff of Pleasantview Good Samaritan Home—especially her grand-daughter, Mona Keuker and her daughter, Laura.
