The St. James, Madelia, Lewisville and LaSalle Fire Departments came together for a 1001 fire class focusing specifically on auto extraction.
Auto extraction is the process of removing someone from a car who has been in an accident. Practice is especially important since each car, model and accident will be different.
The cars were donated for the class by St. James Auto Salvage and were used as dummy cars. The fire departments used the jaws-of-life to dig into the car and get to where a passenger would be within the car.
Classes like this are held regularly to keep the fire department up-to-date on new techniques and well-practiced for when they have to use this knowledge during real events.
Car accidents can happen any day and any time, so the volunteers in St. James have to be ready at all times. Remember to respect the rules of the road and drive safely in treacherous conditions.
