Habitat for Humanity of South Central, Minn. celebrates the completion of its one hundred and third home in a dedication ceremony, Thursday March 21, at 507 Tenth Ave. N.
Habitat for Humanity of SCMN is extending an invitation to the Greater St. James community to join in celebrating this exciting occasion.
The Aguilar Family Open House takes place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the dedication ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments provided at the 507 Tenth Ave. N home as Habitat for Humanity of SCMN staff, volunteers, friends and family gather to present the keys to Renee Aguilar.
Renee Aguilar, the new homeowner wants to thank everyone who rallied around her with compassion and commitment helping her achieve the dream of homeownership for her family.
Aguilar completed more than the minimum requirement of 200 “sweat equity” hours in the construction of her home and the homes of others.
“I felt a great sense of accomplishment and pride during the entire Habitat process. I’d like to thank the Care-A-Vanners, Amy Shupe for being there for me and my kids, to Mary Shupe and Gene Kovacs for their help and support and to those at Armour Eckrich that were able to find time to help and their continuous support.
“I’d also like to thank all of the volunteers who worked regularly and endlessly on my home, like Lloyd Carlson. I’d like to thank all Watonwan County Partnering Community Members who helped make this dream a reality for me.
“And thank you all staff, volunteers and anyone else I may have forgotten to mention who made this house a home. You’ve made us so happy. A thank you does not give your generosity true justice,” said Aguilar.
Donations, in-kind building materials and volunteer labor are the driving force behind Habitat for Humanity of South Central Minnesota’s ability to build homes at an affordable price. The Aguilar family will purchase the home through a zero percent interest mortgage, in which monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat homes.
“We are very excited to provide another Habitat Home for a well-deserving family,” said Executive Director of HFHSCMN Julie Schmillen. “We look forward to building many more to come and are currently looking for more folks to apply for a permanent place to call home in the St. James area.”
