Last Wednesday was the first day of spring. It was also the coldest day of the week, which is fitting for Minnesota, a state that can’t seem to ever figure out whether it wants to be hot or cold.
Those of us who are native to Minnesota are definitely used to the weather being unpredictable and cold, but we still like to complain about it. That’s probably because there isn’t much else to talk about when the wind is so cold on your cheeks it burns.
It is also kind of fun for us to complain about, because we are bonded together in our suffering through the weather. We all experience it, and we can all agree it’s uncomfortable. There are very few things these days that we can all agree on, and the weather seems to be one of those things.
We have been fortunate, down here in St. James, to have missed a lot of the bad storms that made their way through the area this winter. Even while avoiding those storms, we were able to get some precipitation, which should help the farmers in the area.
Overall, you can’t complain about winter too much, especially now that it’s over. But, I think I’m ready for Spring to be over soon too. I’m looking forward to summer and all of the fun outdoor activities that summer brings – like bonfires, sports, parades, fireworks and sleeping outside. Dreaming about summer should help me through these last few cold weeks of the winter/spring.
