Though he’s busy as the Head Coach of the softball team, Steve Chapin is also the Head Coach of the volleyball team.
Steve provided the Plaindealer with information about a volleyball training program coming to St. James in the Summer 2013.
Chapin said, “With the support of the St. James High School Volleyball Booster club, we are excited to bring the SoloSpike volleyball training program here to St. James.
“It’s recommended for players that have finished 8th grade or taken part in a previous SoloSpike program. Multiple training levels make the SoloSpike Hitters Club appropriate for all ages and skill levels.”
Athletes will train in a small group environment with like athletes under the direction of a certified SoloSpike Instructor. Pre/Post testing, digital video analysis and player evaluations are completed for each athlete. With the use of our
Dartfish video technology and SoloSpike’s advanced hitting system, this program provides our staff and your athletes with the tools to develop long term changes in dynamic hitting and the development of muscle memory through focused repetitions. As players go through the program they will see significant increase in vertical and attack height.
This program also includes live ball hitting on the net.
The 1st Steps Program includes base fundamental skill development in serving, ball handling, hitting, setting. Players will learn proper
movement patterns and learn volleyball movement patterns to make them successful.
“Only through good focused repetitions over a 6-8 week period can we actually develop long term changes in an athlete’s habits or muscle memory,” Chapin said.
The camp will run Tuesdays and Thursdays
June 11,13, 18, 20, 25, 27 and July 2, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 and August 1, 6.
