The small department of Ormsby fire said goodbye to their friend Dustin Fedder with the help of many different departments and people throughout Watonwan County and the State.
Departments of Brooklyn Park, Nicollet, St. Peter, all Watonwan County Fire Departments, and more – even EMS units drove downtown St. James as a single unit honoring their lost brother. There were 77 people from 25 departments total. The procession of cars filled first avenue for as far as the eye could see in both directions.
“It was amazing to me to see how many other fire fighters took time off of work to come be a part of this when they may not have even know him personally,” said Ormsby Fire Fighter Andy Swanson. “But then as I think about it, that is what we as volunteer Fire/EMS do when ever we are called to duty – we go and help out someone we may not have ever met before – the hardest part is we meet a lot of wonderful people on one of the worst days of their lives.”
Fedder made plans with Swanson that should anything happen, the community of fire fighters and EMS would come together as one. Planning from all of the departments in Watonwan County made that dream a reality on Monday.
