Golden Gopher wrestler Scott Schiller earned All American honors when he placed fifth at the NCAA National Championship Tournament last weekend.
Schiller has a connection to St. James as his grandfather Dean Schiller and his grandmother Shirely Curry (maiden name) were originally from St. James. Dean is a 1960 graduate and Shirley a 1961 graduate of St. James High School.
Scott’s wrestling DNA goes back at least as far as Grandpa Dean who was a four year wrestler for the Saints.
Dean and Shirley moved away from St. James in the early 1960s and live in the Fargo, ND area at the present time.
Scott is a redshirt sophomore and wrestled at the 197 lbs. weight class for the Gophers. He was a three time North Dakota High School State Champion.
The Gophers had eight wrestlers earn All American honors at the recent national championships. The Gopher team finished in third place.
