  •     Ronald McDonald and a couple of his merry pranksters visited Northside Elementary School on Tuesday to award Roxanne Romsdahl’s first grade class first place in the 2013 pop top challenge.
Her class collected over 72 pounds of pop tabs to earn the recognition. The tabs collected by all of the Northside classes will be melted down and the aluminum will be sold for scrap.
Ronald said this was the best year ever for the number of pounds of pop tabs collected by Northside students.
The proceeds will go to support the projects of the Ronald McDonald House.
Local McDonald’s manager Matt Steffen said the award was given as part of a Ronald McDonald show at Northside. It was a show that was designed to teach kids about preventing and stopping bullying.
The charity’s website  explained the,   “Ronald McDonald House program provides a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost.
“The Houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night to rest.
“We believe when a child is hospitalized the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed.”
The students and staff at Northside had two entertaining sessions on Tuesday morning learning lessons about preventing bullying and celebrating their efforts at charity raising.
