The 11th annual Cash for Kids auction is this Sunday, April 7. The fundraising event is set to begin at 11:30 am when the doors of the St. James High School Gym swing open.
There is no admission charge and everyone is welcome. When the doors open for viewing, people can begin bidding for silent auction items.
The gathering of the auction items by the indefatigable Pam Runge means people will have an abundance of items and goodies to bid on. Each year Pam does a great job picking what goes in the auction as well as promoting the auction.
Pam got an autographed Percy Harvin jersey. It will be an even bigger collectable because it’s a Vikings jersey autographed by Harvin. There is not going to be many more of this around.
The New York Rangers hockey team also donated an autographed jersey that will be put up for auction.
The first phase of the auction will be for kids and classroom items. This is a popular category. It’s a live auction and will begin at noon.
At 1 pm the silent auction starts. Remaining bidding tables will close at 15 minutes intervals after that.
The live auction gets underway at 2:30 pm and there’s a lot of good merchandise on hand for that. There will be toys for the kids. Tickets of all kind for events of all kinds. Including tickets for Timberwolves games and Twins games as well as cultural events.
There’s additional autographed memorabilia. One of the more interesting autographed items is a major league baseball autographed by future Hall of Fame player Joe Mauer. There’s also a football signed by Fran Tarkington and a big Vikings helmet signed by the Vikings kicker Blair Walsh. There are also celebrity autographed pictures from people like Betty White and Don Rickles.
One item that will draw strong bidding is a large utility shed that’s been built. The naming rights for one year to the high school gym will also be auctioned off. A link to the full list of the items that will be auctioned can be found on the Plaindealer’s Facebook page.
And lots and lots of good deals can be had. In a perfect auction world, Pam would like every gift certificate item to go at full price or more. However, there often are certificates like $100 coupons that go for less than the face amounts. It is the lure of winning one of those great deals that attracts bidders to an auction.
Page 2 of 2 - “There’s something in this auction for everyone,” Pam likes to say. Judging from the lengthy list of items, everyone living in District #840 should come to the auction.
Many supporters of the Saints athletic programs have a fundraising effort underway to have the gym named in the memory of Denny Kaus. A big Saints fan who recently passed away.
