The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) provides eligible participants to potentially receive financial assistance to implement conservation practices on their land through the Environmental
Quality Incentive Program (EQIP).
A participant can submit an application for EQIP throughout the year. EQIP opens up for application acceptance during ranking periods.
The deadline for Ranking Period 4 of EQIP 2013 is April 19, 2013. The application is ranked under the applicable funding pool for the participant. There are various funding pools under EQIP, such as the National Initiatives, Ag Waste, Forestry, Grazing, Beginning Farmer, Socially Disadvantaged, and Area Level pools.
For instance, a beginning farmer’s eligible application would only be scored and ranked with other beginning farmers applications in the state of Minnesota. The applicant’s ranking score would determine if the eligible application could become an approved application. NRCS staff is available to help assess your operation and land for areas of resource concern that could be improved through NRCS conservation practices.
This assistance could identify where financial assistance through EQIP could help target neededconservation. Contact the NRCS – St. James Field Office at 823 1st Avenue South, St. James, MN 56081, or call 507-375-3104 for more information.
