Saints senior athlete Johnathan Surber will continue on with his track and cross country career in college. John has agreed to run track at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA next year.
Former Saint standout Brian Chirstiansen is finishing up his track and cross country career at Buena Vista. John said visiting Christiansen this year kind of sealed the deal for him as far as determining that Buena Vista was best for him.
John said he got a good financial aid package and he intends to run both cross country and track. John said he really likes Buena Vista Head Coach Jeff Brennan.
Saints Cross Country Head Coach Kyle Blomgren said, “He has put a lot of thought into where he wanted to go. He will be an impact runner for them both in CC and track. Coach Brennan has some great plans for him and said John was their top prospect. I'll enjoy keeping up with his progress.”
Blomgren continued, “Johnathan has been a leader and an inspiration for our team since he was in seventh grade. I believe he has been the only St. James athlete to compete at the state level in his/her sport all six years of his career.
“He's been all-conference and all-section 5 times, and all-state 3 times. Johnathan was fortunate to have had some great runners in his younger days to show him what the tradition of Saints CC was, and he, in turn, has carried on that legacy.
“I feel fortunate to have had the chance to coach a young man with Johnathan's ability and character and am positive that he will make a significant impact upon the program and his teammates at BVU. I wish him the best! Go Beavers!!!”
