The fifth annual hanging baskets celebration will be held Tuesday, April 23 at the St. James Community building from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Being served at the event will be turkey sandwiches, pasta salad with ham and potato soup. Deliveries will also be available for businesses who are unable to attend the fundraiser, but would like to support the hanging baskets committee. Simply call 375-4370 to place an order.
The hanging baskets committee was formed five years ago in response to a cut in local funding due to a lack of state funds. A group of four individuals decided the St. James hanging baskets were too important to lose, and have raised money each year to maintain the baskets and purchase flower arrangements.
With the All School Reunion in town this year, there is a special focus on making the town look presentable. The goal of the committee is to make the hanging baskets in St. James the best hanging baskets in Minnesota.
The cost to create and maintain one basket for the entire year is about $100. The committee will be accepting free-will donations at the hanging baskets celebration.
If you are unable to attend but would like to support the hanging basket tradition, donations can be submitted at the city hall in St. James. All proceeds from the luncheon will go toward the purchase and maintenance of the hanging baskets in 2013.
