Richard Melheim, age 60, of Granite Falls, died on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James with Rev. Ken Bowman officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Odin. Richard Allen Melheim was born in St. James, to parents Joseph "Smokey" and Ella (Panzer) Melheim on July 1, 1952. He went to St. James
High School and graduated in 1971. He then resided, worked and raised his family in St. James. Richard took up hobbies that included gardening, woodshop, carpentry, and cooking for his family and friends. Neighbors in the community could always rely on him to lend a helping hand. Richard took pride in many things, but the most important to him was his family.
Richard is survived by his three sons, Chris (Terri) Melheim of Sleepy Eye, Ryan Melheim of St. James, and Lucas Melheim of Apple Valley; grandson Derek Melheim of St. James; great-grandson Jonathan Fischer of Jackson; brother, Ronald "Chopper" Melheim of Mountain Lake; sisters, Marilyn "Pickles" Thompson of Windom, Diane (Ivan) Englin of Mountain Lake, and Mary Jo (Brad) Cowell of St. James.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene "Jigs" Melheim, sister Carolyn "Dutch" Peterson; niece Jenny Gumroyan, and
nephew Lance Cowell.
