  • Total damage from ice storm

  • Power was restored to all South Central Electric members by late afternoon on Saturday April 13.


    According to Mark Anderson the most significant damage occurred at the intersection of Cottonwood County roads 4 and 22.

  • South Central Electric Association’s preliminary assessment of the damage from the ice and snow storms from April 9 and 10 put the total over $500,000.  
    More than 450 outages were reported.  Snapped poles and downed power lines from the heavy ice caused the biggest issues.  South Central Electric lost over 100 poles from the storm.  Most of the damage was in Cottonwood County with some damage reported in Martin County.  
    Mark Anderson, South Central Electric Operations Manager stated “On Thursday April 11 the transmission line was lost on the western half of our service territory causing us to lose power to six of our substations in Cottonwood County which lasted about 4 hours.  This affected over 1,000 members.”  
    Power was restored to all South Central Electric members by late afternoon on Saturday April 13.
    According to Mark Anderson the most significant damage occurred at the intersection of Cottonwood County roads 4 and 22.  
    “We lost 60 three phase poles going in all directions from the intersection.” 
    Crews from Highline Construction were brought in to repair the intersection and all the new poles and line were replaced by Friday afternoon.  
    According to Anderson crews from Redwood Electric, the city of St. James and Highline Construction helped get the power restored.  
    Anderson stated “We are very thankful for those that came to help out and especially grateful to our crews and office staff.  South Central Electric line crews put in four consecutive 16 hour days while office staff were on duty 24 hours a day until Saturday.”  
    South Central Electric General Manager, Ron Horman, remarked “This is one of the worst storms to ever hit our system and our employees did a fantastic job, putting in long hours to get things up and running as soon as possible.  We are grateful for the kind words from our members and appreciate their patience during the outage.”
