The Saints record setting quarterback and ace pitcher Sam Carlson has decided to continue his athletic career at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN.
Sam will be attending Gustavus beginning in the fall of 2013 and will play football and baseball and pursue a degree in education.
Gustavus does not offer athletic scholarships, but the school can structure financial aid in a way so it is not listed as an athletic scholarship. In Sam’s case the school calls it a Gold Scholarship.
Sam will focus on football when it is football season and baseball when it is baseball season. Since he is most likely going to be a pitcher at the collegiate level, structured practices will start in the beginning of February. He won't need to be concerned about trying to juggle football and baseball.
Sam is excited about both sports and looking forward to the opportunities to contribute and be the best competitor and teammate he can be.
Other Saints who have competed in two sports at the college level include Ty Kaus who also attended Gustavus. He played basketball and baseball. St. James graduate Austin Pinke played basketball and baseball at Minnesota Morris.
