Norman Romsdahl, age 86 of St. James, was called to his eternal rest on Sunday morning, May 5, 2013 at Truman Senior Living in Truman. A Celebration of Life Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Odin, with Pastor Carla Reierson Officiating. Burial will be in the Kansas Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural Butterfield with full military honors by St. James Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont and one hour prior to the services at the Church on Wednesday. Norman Matthew Romsdahl, son of Karl and Hulda (Eckstrom) Romsdahl, was born on January 17, 1927, in Long Lake Township, Watonwan County. Norman was raised in rural St. James. He was baptized and later confirmed at Kansas Lake Lutheran Church in rural Butterfield. He attended rural country school in District #12 in Long Lake Township. Norman served in the United States Navy during WW II and was honorably discharged July 16, 1946. He returned home to the family farm in Long Lake Township where he farmed until his retirement in 1992. On November 24, 1951, he was united in marriage to Peggy Kading at St. James. Norman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Odin, and Kansas Lake Lutheran Church, rural Butterfield, where he ushered, sang in the choir and held various positions on the Council. He enjoyed singing in the Long Lake-Kansas Lake Men’s Octet and the Ormsby Small Town Christmas Concerts. He was a member of the American Legion Post #33 in St. James, Farmers Union, and National Farmers Organization. Norman was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan and rarely missed watching a game. He and Peggy enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family. In 2010 he became a resident of Truman Senior Living.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Peggy, of Truman; daughters, Dorothy (Bryce) Wolle of Madelia, Patricia (Richard) Norell of Idaho Falls, Joyce (Scott) Bolte of Butterfield; son, Keith (Jayne) of St. James; eight grandchildren, Eric (Krissy) Wolle, Allison (Brad) Sandberg, Stephen (Stephanie) Norell, Shaun (Stacy) Bolte, Ryan (Marissa) Bolte, Christopher (Susan) Romsdahl, Jonathan (Cari) Romsdahl and Joseph (Patty) Romsdahl; great-grandchildren, Bearic, Aubriella, and Everleigh Wolle, Thorin and Raiden Berg, Levi Sandberg, Gage, Austin, Tyler, Shayla, and Kaita Bolte, Kaylee, Bradyn, Alexis, Isaiah, Madelinn, Mazie and Jaxon Romsdahl; brother-in-law, James Kading of Spring Park; and other relatives and friends.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Franklin and Mary Romsdahl; his wife’s parents, Arnold and Ruby Kading; brother-in-law, Donovan Kading; and other relatives.
