Kevin Mathistad, age 55, of Butterfield, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Kevin Mathistad, age 55, of Butterfield, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2013, at the Community Bible Church in Butterfield. Burial will be at Butterfield City Cemetery in Butterfield. Visitation will be Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Monday one hour before services at the church. Kevin Wayne Mathistad was born August 31st, 1957 to Wayne and Marjean (Heffele) Mathistad in Mountain Lake. He was baptized in the Christian faith on November 3, 1957 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church of Odin. He was confirmed in faith on May 16, 1971 at Galena Church of Ormsby. Kevin attended elementary school in Ormsby and grades 7 and 8 in St. James, graduating in 1975 from Butterfield - Odin Public School. Kevin spent his high school years playing football and working beside his dad, mom, and brother at Butterfield Building Supply. On September 29, 1984 Kevin was joined in marriage to Barbara (Braaten) Mathistad. Kevin worked various jobs throughout his life, including driving truck for Butterfield Foods, Butterfield Oil, Mathowitz Construction, and Crystal Valley. From August 2011 to present Kevin drove truck for T&K Transport of Butterfield. Kevin passed away on May 1, 2013, in Rochester. Kevin loved his family and especially becoming a Grandpa in February and March 2013. Kevin enjoyed spending his time off with family and friends in his back garage. Kevin leaves behind his wife Barbara; sons, Nick (Jennifer) and Nathan; daughter, Nadeen (Jeff); two beautiful granddaughters Quinn and Aubre, and grandsons Jaden and Tracyn; parents Wayne and step-mother Vonnie Mathistad, Aasten and Agnes Braaten; brother Keith; in-laws, Bret (Annette) Braaten, Beth (Kent) Winters; niece Naomi (Andy) Winters; nephews Blane (Connie) Braaten, Travis (Misty) Winters, Scott (Brittany) Winters, and Mike (Paula) Braaten; one great-niece, Bristol Braaten; and three great-nephews, Dalton and Tucker Braaten and Waylon Winters. Oh yeah, grand-puppies Mongo & Roscoe!

Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Marjean; sister, Joan; and brother, Kim; grandfathers Fred and Palmer; grandmothers, Amanda, Liz and Marge.
