“That is how you win track meets. Aryn Eckstrom had a great night winning both the 1600 and 3200. Emily Hurley also had a double win in shot and discus.”

The sun came out and made for good weather conditions for a track meet on Tuesday night.             The Saints made the most of it as the girls placed first in the four team field with a 92.5 score, which was far ahead of second place MadThe boys finished third with 66 points, which was just four points behind second place Mt. Lake Area. Madelia-Truman won the boys with 109 points.

On the girls side, Emily Hurley had dominate performances in the discus and shot put winning by wide margins.

Senior Aryn Eckstrom won the 3200 and 1600 runs, while Freshman Aubrey Eckstrom won the 400 meter race.

Devon Flohrs won the triple jump. Freshman Amelia Collier won the 200 meter race and sophomore Katy Hedlund won the high jump.

The girls also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relay events. The girls pointed in many other events in rolling up their winning margin.

Saints Head Track Coach Scott Allen said, “The girls had a great night with 10 first place finishes out of 18 events, multiple pointing in five events, and scoring in all but one event.

“That is how you win track meets.  Aryn Eckstrom had a great night winning both the 1600 and 3200.  Emily Hurley also had a double win in shot and discus.”

The boys team is not as deep and does not point in all events.

Victor Torres won the short and the discus for the Saints. Tyler Hanson won the pole vault at 12 feet.

Allen said, “The boys ran well and are improving, but we ran against some great competition in Madelia Truman Grananda Huntley East Chain Martin Luther - one Team, Mountain Lake  and Sleepy Eye. We placed in every event, but just not high enough in a few of them.

“We ran our best 4x800 and 4x400 of the year, but didn't win either.  Tyler Hanson had a great day winning the pole vault, placing 2nd in the 110 hurdles, and 3rd in the 300 hurdles.”

Last Thursday the boys and girls track teams competed in a five team meet at Fairmont. A deep Fairmont team won both the boys and the girls meets. The girls finished second and the boys finished third.

Seniors led the way for the girls team. Emily Hurley won the discus and the shot. Aryn Eckstrom won the 1600 meter run and Michaela Nordby won the long jump.

On the boys side, Johnathan Surber won the 3200 meter run. The boys also won the 4x800 meter race. Running in that event for the Saints were  Surber, Carlos Marquez, Luke Tonsager and  Zuriel Chacon.

Summarizing the meet Allen said, “Great meet.  Not originally on the schedule, but a good night since the last time we had a meet was April 5th.
“The girls did well, but Fairmont beat us with their depth.  Girls that had a great meet were Nordby, Aryn Eckstrom, and Emily Hurley.

“Boys we just don't point in some events and that is why our team score doesn't quite match up.  We did have some great individual performances.”
