Mayo Clinic Health System in St. James is hosting its annual Bicycle Safety Rally on Saturday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. James Federal Bank.
The event promotes the health and safety of bike riders through fun, educational activities and the sale of bike helmets for $14, which have a retail value of $40. Bicycle helmets are recommended for anyone over the age of one and sizes will be available from infant/toddler to adult.
St. James’ event will feature a bicycle obstacle course, lessons in safety skills and door prizes. This year’s event is sponsored by Minnesota Jimmies 4-H Club and University of Minnesota Extension.
“Bike riding is a fun and healthy summer activity, but is not without its own risks,” says Pepper Etters, physician assistant, Mayo Clinic Health System in St. James. “Wearing a helmet every time you are on a bicycle is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect yourself from serious injury.”
