  • As part of a nationwide effort to collect food for local food shelves, the St. James letter carriers collected more than 2,500 pounds of food for the Watonwan County Food Shelf Saturday, May 11.
Now in its twenty-third year, the letter carrier’s food drive is the nation’s largest single-day food drive, having collected more than one billion pounds of food since its inception in 1993.

The letter carriers of St. James wanted to thank everyone who participated and gave in this year’s food drive. They reported a good turn out and believe there was more food collected this year than last year.
A special thank you to any volunteers who helped on pick-up day, specifically Carrier Dick Bradley’s son. All of the food will remain local as part of the Watonwan County Food Shelf.
