The boys tennis team beat New Ulm on Thursday, hosted a tourney on Saturday splitting a pair of matches and then took a long road trip to Pipestone on Monday and had a solid win against the Arrows.
The Saints played at New Ulm on Thursday and beat the Eagles 4-3. In singles, Connor Olson at one and Brock Mueller at three lost, but John Foss at two and Kilian Wehde at four clipped the wings of their Eagles opponents.
On Saturday the Saints once again beat New Ulm, but fell to fifth ranked Class A power Mound-Westonka 5-2. The match against Mound-Westonka was closer than the score indicates, “We pushed Mound-Westonka to the limit,” said Saints Head Coach Les Zellmann.
The Saints were without number one singles player Connor Olson for these series of three matches.
John Foss stepped up from two singles and won two out of the three matches he played at one, but fell to M-W 6-0, 6-0.
The Saints also lost at two and three singles against M-W. Brock Mueller dropped the two singles 6-2, 6-2 and Kilian Wehde fell 6-1, 6-0.
Eighth grader Sandin Skow won at four singles 7-6, 6-3.
The Saints put up a good tussle in the doubles matches. The one doubles team of Aldair Trujillo and Will Runge lost 6-4, 6-4. The two doubles team of Cole Skow and Connor Engel fell in three sets 7-5, 3-6 and lost a super tie breaker 2-10.
The Saints Erik Heitz and Michael Hedlund won at three doubles 6-2, 7-5.
Playing New Ulm for the second time in three days the Saints won by the same 4-3 team score, but the order of wins was a bit different. John Foss won at one singles 6-0, 6-3. Brock Mueller lost at two and Kilian Wehde lost at three. Sandin Skow won at four singles 6-2, 6-3.
The doubles matches played out the same way. Trujillo and Runge lost at one, but Engel and Cole Skow and at three doubles Heitz and Hedlund won.
Zellmann said this about the matches on Saturday, “Windy and cold to start. Very windy when we finished.
“We see continued growth of all players. It is fun to watch their confidence grow.”
On the Saints’ John Foss beating a New Ulm player Connor Olson lost to on Thursday Zellmann said, “John handled the weather much better than his opponent.”
The Saints beat Pipestone 6-1 on Monday night.

The Saints won all three doubles matches. Trujillo and Runge won at one 6-1, 6-2. Engel and Cole Skow won at two doubles 6-1, 6-4 and Sandin Skow and Erik Heitz won three doubles 6-3, 6-2.
The boys are now 10-5 for the year. The South Central Conference Tournament is at Waseca on Saturday.
