St. James graduate, 20-year-old Yesenia Gonzales was pronounced dead at the scene after police were called to the home in Mankato. Gonzales’ 26-year-old husband is suspected to be the second victim of the attack, though his name has not been released.
Suspect Levi Minisalle, a 24-year-old male from Minneapolis was found hiding in a Holiday gas station following the incident. He was identified by the second victim and was charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder.
According to charges, Minissale was driving from Sioux Falls to Minneapolis before entering the Mankato home. The criminal complaint states Minissale was the ex-boyfriend of Gonzales and was ‘angry with them’, though there is no clear further motive. Minissale admitted to stabbing Gonzales three or four times before attacking the victim’s husband.
When asked if the victims got what they deserved, Minissale is reported to have said “in a way, yes.”
Minissale is being held at the Blue Earth County jail with bail set at $1 million with conditions and $2 million without conditions. He is due back in court June 20.
