  • A 31-year-old female from St. James issued a complaint May 11 accusing her husband and suspect 36-year-old Matthew Redmond of abducting her while they were talking in Redmond’s car.
According to the complaint, sometime during the conversation with the victim, Redmond became emotional. When the victim attempted to remove herself from the vehicle, Redmond put the car into gear and sped away.
The complaint continues that the victim attempted to exit the vehicle multiple times, but was unable to do so successfully. The victim’s leg did manage to get the door open, but her leg got caught in the door. At this point Redmond began to threaten the victim and told her that if she exited the vehicle he would back up and run her down.
When the victim reached to turn the car off, she was bit on the forearm and had her head slammed into the center console. The victim then got a hold of the suspect’s cell phone, but was unable to successfully dial 911 because the phone was quickly taken away.
The victim eventually escaped from the vehicle by pulling out of her sweatshirt and jumping from the vehicle – according to the complaint. From there the police were telephoned.
Redmond was taken into custody, but released when he posted conditional bail. He has been  charged with making terroristic threats, false imprisonment, interfering with a 911 call, domestic assault and fifth degree assault.
The hearing for this case was Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Redmond could get a maximum prison sentence of more than nine years with a fine of $20,000. At the time of print there was no information on a verdict reached in the case.
