  • More American children have been considered obese in recent years than ever before, and childhood obesity has been termed an epidemic by many health experts. To help educate parents and children about this alarming trend and how to reverse it, Mayo Clinic Health System in St. James is hosting “Childhood Obesity” by Vickie Parsons, Mayo Clinic Health System certified nurse practitioner and certified diabetes educator, on Monday, June 17, at 7 p.m. in the main conference room of the medical center.
This free presentation to the public is part of Mayo Clinic Health System’s monthly Speaking of Health community health education series. Parsons will explore many questions related to childhood obesity, including:
Why is childhood obesity an epidemic?
What health problems can it cause?
When should you seek medical help?
How do we help our overweight kids?
Registration for Speaking of Health’s “Childhood Obesity” is not required, and there will be a drawing for door prizes at the event. The public should enter through the east clinic entrance. For more information, please call 507-385-4706.
Speaking of Health is a community health education series and does not qualify for clinical continuing education units or clinical contact hour credit.
