Betty Urban, age 85, of St. James, died on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Betty Urban, age 85, of St. James, died on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Visitation will be Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James from 4 to 8 p.m. Private services and burial will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Truman. Betty Jane was born on January 26, 1928 in Lewisville, to Alfred "Snip" Charles and Ethel Alberta (Splinter) Goor. She worked at Haycraft Grocery Store until December 18, 1947 when she married Wayne Haycraft in Madelia. They moved to California and while living in Pasadena, Betty worked for Boys Super Market. They returned to St. James in 1950. Their marriage was blessed with the births of Charles, Sheila, Bruce, Cynthia and Kevin. Wayne died in 1961. Betty briefly worked at Tony Downs and later worked for Urban Shoe Store. She married Lester Urban on November 25, 1968 in Truman and was blessed to include his children, Danny and Cindy as her own. Lastly, Betty and Lester had Carl, who completed their family. Betty loved being a grandma, including acting as a grandma for her daughter-in-law's daycare. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, especially flowers, sewing and other handiwork and bird watching. A current member of First Lutheran Church in St. James, Betty was a former member of St. Catherine's Church in Truman. She was also a member and Past President of the Lewisville American Legion Auxiliary.
Betty is survived by her children, Charlie (Joann) Haycraft of St James, Sheila (Charles) Wick of St. James, Danny Urban of Northfield, Cynthia (Timothy) Frantik of Olivia, Kevin (Deb) Haycraft of St. James, Cindy Olson of Burnsville, and Carl (Roni) Urban of Madelia; a great many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by son Bruce, husband Lester, husband Wayne, and her parents.
