Southwest Minnesota State University wrestler Ethan Hildebrandt was recently named to the 12-member Capital One Academic All-District VII At-Large team. The announcement was made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
District VII is made up of member schools of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Mid-America Athletic Association and the Great American Conference. The At-Large team consists of student-athletes that compete in golf, lacrosse, tennis, wrestling, swimming, ice hockey and gymnastics.
Hildebrandt, a junior at SMSU, has compiled a 3.80 GPA as an education major. Hildebrandt finished the 2012-13 season with an 11-11 record at 141 pounds, including recording three victories by fall. He has twice been named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division II All-Academic team and is also a two-time Academic All-NSIC honoree.
Hildebrandt is a 2010 graduate of St. James High School.
Nominations and voting for the Academic All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
In the past two academic years, SMSU has 10 first team Academic All-District honorees, three first team Academic All-Americans and two third team Academic All-Americans.
To be nominated for all-district honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
