  • With school out for summer, there was not a lot of business for the St. James School Board to attend to on Monday night. Consequently, the regular meeting lasted around 15 minutes.
One of the items in new business was the setting of breakfast and lunch prices for the next school year.
Prices were going to be going up a nickel across the board. Student breakfasts will now be $1.50 and adult breakfasts will now be $2.30.
The lunch prices will be $2.10 for an elementary lunch, $2.20 for a secondary lunch and $3.40 for an adult lunch. There is no change in the cost of milk. It will remain 45 cents a carton.
The Board also set the activity, co-curricular fee schedule for the next year. The fees will remain the same as they were this year.
There is a family limit of $250 for the school year.
All sport fees for grades 9-12 are $65 each. For grades 7-8 sport fees are $40.
Participation in the fall musical is $40, the one act play is $30, the spring play is $35 and the danceline will cost $50.
A student may qualify for reduced activity fee participation if he or she is on the Educational Benefit Program (free or reduced lunch). The forms for the upcoming school year must be on file to take advantage of this opportunity.
The Educational Benefit Program's reduced fee schedule for grades 9-12 is $20 for all activities and is $10 for grades 7-8 for all activities.
The accepting of gifts and contributions in the amount of $17,048.26 were approved by the Board. The Board also approved the payment of June's expenses in the amount of $1,218,037.14.
Several employee contracts were approved for the next school year. The Board also rescinded a benefit adjust for community education employees. Provisions of the Affordable Care Act (Obama Care) have been delayed for a year, and that rendered this adjustment as unnecessary at the present time.
The next Board meeting will be Aug. 12, at 6 pm at the Armstrong Media Center.
