  • Orval Kohn, age 80, of St. James, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev.'s Martin Lopahs and Matthew Natsis officiating. Burial with military honors will be provided by the St. James Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Visitation will be Monday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James from 5pm to 8pm and one hour before services at the church Tuesday. You may send the family condolence online at www.sturmfh.com.
    Orval George Kohn was born August 30, 1932, in St. James, the son of George and Anna (Heckman) Kohn. Orval attended school in St. James. He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1956. On June 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Sandy" Sanchez in Scarbro, WV. The couple made their home in St. James where Orval work at Tony Downs Foods for a short time before going to work at S-T Industries where he worked until his retirement. Orval then drove cars for Dick Olson Motors and began working at Pease Funeral Home as a funeral assistant which he did for many years. Orval was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed, served as an Elder, usher and on several committees. He was past commander of the V.F.W. post. In his younger days he enjoyed fishing, riding bike and dancing. Now a days he enjoyed the morning coffee at the Band Box and visiting with friends.
    Orval is survived by his sons, Mark (Jill) Kohn of Alexandria, Va., David Kohn of Savage, and  grandson Andrew Kohn.
    He is preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; parents, George and Anna; sister, Leona; brother, Vernon; sister-in-law, Grace Kohn; brothers-in-law, John Heppner, Dick Ingram, Pete Sanchez, Gary Hamby and nephew Daron Hunstad.
