The second half of the season for the A’s has seen them play better baseball. In between two close losses to good teams, the A’s shutout Sleepy Eye for the second time this year.
Searles 7, A’s 6
A back and forth battle in Searles last Wednesday ended with the A’s on the short end of a 7-6 final. The A’s overcame a 2-0 deficit with a five run third inning that featured doubles from Joe Krause, Joe Hager and Chris Menssen. Searles came back with two runs to cut the lead to 5-4 only to have the A’s add another run to stretch their lead to 6-4. The Grizzlies had one rally left as they scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to win the game 7-6.
A’s starter David Krause struggled throughout the game, giving up 12 hits, walking three and hitting one batter in the eight innings he pitched. He had one strikeout. Five of the seven runs he gave up were earned. He was charged with the loss and is now 4-3 on the year.
Joe Hager led the A’s offense, going four for five with an RBI. Joe Krause and Craig Nelson had two hits each. Krause and Chris Menssen each had two RBI.
A’s 5, Sleepy Eye 0
Joe Hager threw a four hit, complete game shutout Friday night as the A’s blanked the Sleepy Eye Indians for the second time this season. Hager was in control from the start, walking two while striking out two. With the win, Hager’s record on the year stands at 1-4.
The offense generated 12 hits on the night. Chris Menssen was three for five, while Joe Hager, Matt Westman and Brandon Menssen each collected two hits.
Lamberton 4, A’s 3
The A’s traveled to Lamberton on Sunday to face the division leading Long Sox. For the second time this year, the A’s battled tough, but lost a one run game.
Matt Dahl got the call on the mound and threw a complete game, giving up only one earned run. He struck out three, while giving up six hits.
Anthony Stordalen and Dusty Pfeiffer each had two hits for the A’s. Chris Menssen had two RBI.
The A’s are now 7-13 on the year, 7-12 in the Tomahawk East League.
The A’s host Redwood Falls on Friday, July 19. The game starts at 8:00 pm. They end the regular season with a 7:30 pm game at Redwood Falls on Sunday, July 21.

Ryan Menssen leads all A’s hitters with a .375 average and 15 RBIs.
Anthony Stordalen is hitting .344 and Joe Hager is hitting .328 with 12 RBIs. Pitching leaders for the A’s include David Krause with a 4-3 record, one save and an ERA of 3.07 and Matt Dahl with an ERA of 2.66.
