  • The A’s continue their second half surge with three wins this past week.

    They defeated Leavenworth 1-0 and Redwood Falls 10-5. They also received a win by forfeit when Redwood Falls couldn’t field a team on July 19.

  •     The A’s continue their second half surge with three wins this past week.  
       They defeated Leavenworth 1-0 and  Redwood Falls 10-5.  They also received a win by forfeit when Redwood Falls couldn’t field a team on July 19.  
        The A’s have now won five of their last seven games and head to the playoffs playing their best baseball of the year.
    A’s 1, Leavenworth 0
        In a playoff preview, the A’s blanked the Orioles in St. James on Wednesday 1-0.  A’s starter David Krause and reliever Dusty Pfeiffer combined to get the shutout.  
        Krause went five and one-third innings giving up two hits and one walk.  He struck out six.  Pfeiffer went three and two-third innings giving up one hit and two walks while striking out five. Pfeiffer (1-0) earned the win.  
        The only scoring in the game came in the sixth inning when Nate Ewert singled with one out.  He moved to third on a single by Joe Krause and scored on an error by the Leavenworth shortstop. The A’s collected only four hits on the night.  Joe Krause went two for three.
    A’s 10, Redwood Falls 5
        The A’s struggled a bit in their regular season finale at Redwood Falls but came on strong in the late innings to get the win.
        A’s starter Joe Hager had a tough go early on, giving up five runs on five hits in four innings of work.  He walked two and struck out four.  
        Matt Dahl (1-3) came on in the fifth and shut out the Redbirds the rest of the way to earn the win.  He gave up four hits, walked two, hit one batter and struck out three.  He worked out of bases loaded jams in the eighth and ninth innings.         Offensively, the A’s collected thirteen hits and benefited from four walks and four hit batters.  After falling behind 2-0 in the first and 5-1 in the second, the A’s scored one in the third, three in the fifth, one in the seventh and put the game away with four in the eighth.
        Ryan Menssen and Craig Nelson were each three for three while Joe Krause was three for five with a double.  Nelson collected three RBIs while Chris Menssen and Austin Pinke had two each.

    Page 2 of 2 - The A’s are now 10-13 on the year, 10-12 in the Tomahawk East League. 
    They finished the regular season in fifth place in the American Division and will open the playoffs with a best two of three series against second place Leavenworth.  They play at Leavenworth Friday, July 26 at 8:00 pm and play at St. James on Sunday, July 28 at 7:30 pm.  The rubber game, if needed, will be played at Leavenworth on Tuesday, July 30 at 8:00 pm.  
        The winner of that series advances to a Region Tournament that will begin on August 3.  That tournament will include six teams with each team playing the others once in a round robin format.  The four teams with the best records will advance to the State Tournament.
        Ryan Menssen continues to lead the A’s hitters with a .389 average with 15 RBIs and eight stolen bases.  
        Anthony Stordalen is hitting .315 and Joe Hager is hitting .307 with 12 RBIs and 15 runs scored.  Joe Krause is hitting .296 with 5 doubles.
        Pitching leaders for the A’s include David Krause with a 4-3 record, one save and an ERA of 2.80 and Matt Dahl with an ERA of 2.13.
