  • Come out and join your local police and fire departments at this year's National Night Out celebration in Butterfield.
The event will take place from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Butterfield Community Park Shelter Aug. 6.
Members of the community are invited to get to know each other through fun events planned during the National Night Out in Butterfield. Residents will be given the opportunity to meet emergency responders and enjoy a picnic dinner.
Food served includes hotdogs, chips, root beer and water. The National Night Out picnic celebration has been a part of communities throughout the country since 1984.
According to the National Night Out website, the event was created in an "effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back."
National Night Out now involves over 37 million people and 15,000 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.
"This is a night for America to stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity," said National Project Coordinator Matt Peskin. "National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer nation. On NNO, we invite neighborhoods nationwide to join us and give crime a going away party."
