The Wellspring Caregiver Respite and Renew program is now underway for residents of the St. James area who are interested in a little break while their loved ones are participating in a wide array of fun activities.
The program takes place in the Watonwan county Resource Center every Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The cost for the service is just $20 plus the cost of a meal served through Senior dining ($3.85 for seniors older than 60 years of age and $6.55 for seniors less than 60 years of age).
Under the direction of Wellspring staff, older adults with mild to moderate cognitive impairment or those who are socially isolated are cared for one-on-one by capable Wellspring volunteers.
The program is supervised by a licensed social worker and coordinated by a senior activity coordinator and is offered in partnership with VINE Faith in Action. Family caregivers may participate with their loved one, or are welcome to use the time to run errands and take care of personal business.
To register or for more information call Kim Askeland at 507-375-1276. Kim says the program has been very well received by those that have used it. When caregivers have respite services, it lengthens the amount of time that the caregiver can continue caring for their loved one at home. It benefits the whole family.
