Three more SJA Saints sports teams begin their fall competition over the next two days. By Friday night, all the Saints teams will have started their 2013 varsity season.
The girls tennis team got it going last week. Tonight the girls volleyball team begins play when they host Luverne. The Saints return many experienced athletes and could improve on last seasons 9-20 record. The team had many closes losses, so an improvement in the record is a definite possibility.
Since school doesn't start until Sept. 3, the Saints cross county team hits the road to compete at Fairmont on Friday at 9:30 am.
SJA graduated many quality senior runners last year, but state qualifier Ashley Lahti returns for the girls team this year and SJA had a very dominant junior high team last year.
On Friday night the Saints football team kicks off its season when the boys host Pipestone at 7 pm at the St. James Varsity Football Field.
The Saints will be looking for their first win since 2010, so a win over Pipestone would be a great way to get the season going.
Reports have it that Pipestone graduated many seniors last year, so the Saints have an advantage of playing in their first game a team that is going through a rebuilding process.
