The 3rd/4th Grade RED
The St James 3rd & 4th grade youth football team kicked off their inaugural season with an 18-6 loss to an experienced Martin County West team.
After giving up some long plays early to fall behind 12-0, the young Saints stiffened up defensively and started moving the ball offensively.
While they managed to drive deep into MCW territory three times, a short touchdown run by QB Hayden Jones was the only score for the Saints.
Most of the Saint’s yardage was gained thru the air with Jones connecting on several long passes to Dashon Malmgren-Diaz, Alex Stresemann, and Tanner Olson.
The 6th Grade RED
The St. James Saints RED 5th-6th grade youth football team kicked off their season in the MYFL in Lakefield against Jackson County Central. The young Saints lost 54-6.
The very experienced Jackson team has been playing football since 3rd grade. Daveon Anderson led the Saints with 14 yards rushing.
Tyler Chapin had 20 yards and Jackson Miest had 10 yards receiving. Logan Carlson had 30 yards passing.
Peyton Engelking and Charles Schmidt had six tackles each.The young Saints scored on a 75 yard kick return for a touchdown by Carlos Ramirez!
The 6th Grade BLACK
The St. James 5th/6th grade black team battled Martin County West and the extreme heat this past Saturday.
On the third play of the game we had a pass, catch, and run from quarterback Derrick Halverson to Max Johnson for a 30 yard touchdown, but there was a flag on the play and it got called back.
On defense the Saints had some great tackles by Wyatt Westcott and Tallin Johnson. The team also recovered two fumbles. Lucas Anderson recorded two sacks. The Saints ended up losing 34 to 0 in the intense heat.
