  • The reenactment of the capture of the Younger Brothers is set for  this Saturday, Sept. 14. This Seventeenth annual Madelia celebration has become popular with tourists and residents alike. It is a history-filled family weekend.
The festival centers around a reenactment of the 1876 capture, with local actors playing the historical roles. The reenactment takes place at the actual site of the event, about eight miles west of Madelia on the banks of the Watonwan River, near the town of LaSalle.
The day begins at 9 a.m. with the Oscar Sorbel Breakfast at the VFW. Oscar Sorbel was one of Madelia’s early settlers who played a major role in the capture of the Younger Brothers. The breakfast includes the presentation of the community’s Oscar Sorbel Hometown Hero Award winner at 10 a.m., given to a local volunteer.
At high noon, an old fashioned bank robbery unfolds in front of the Farmers State Bank. The action shifts at 2:30 p.m. eight miles west of Madelia, on County Road Three for the gunfight and capture of the Younger Brothers and the return of the captured party to the streets of Madelia at 3:45 p.m. There wil be a bus leaving from the VFW Parking lot at 2 p.m. to the capture site.
A steak fry begins at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the VFW/Legion. Billy Cruz will provide excellent music at the Legion Hall, beginning at 8:30 p.m.
The Younger Brothers Capture takes place rain or shine so bring an umbrella or lawn hair. For more information go to www.youngerbrotherscapture.com or call 507-642-8822.
