Bonnie Jean Smith, age 48, of St. James, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, surrounded by her family at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato due to complications with Lupus. Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in South Branch, with Rev. Matthew Rusert officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Olson – Tichenor Funeral Home in Mapleton and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.
Bonnie was born on January 2, 1965, in Mankato to James and Mary (Bate) Ellis. She was a 1983 graduate of Mapleton High School and attended Mankato State University. Bonnie was employed with AFI in Mankato and later with the Good Samaritan Home in St. James. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in South Branch. Bonnie enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, attending auto races and concerts, vintage music, television and movies.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Jenna Smith and her special friend, Chris Prom, of St. Louis Park; mother, Mary Ellis of Mapleton; sister, Lynn (James) Lentz of Good Thunder; and fiancé, Curtis Sieg of St. James.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her father, James.
