  • Watonwan County/St. James Library is launching the Family Rowdy Reading Program, designed to encourage the power of imagination by emphasizing reading as a family.
By setting aside time to read as a family, kids and parents alike will experience a transformation through reading—reducing stress, improving vocabulary, expanding memory, and building knowledge. In this program, families will find new ways to incorporate reading into their lives.
The program runs from Sept. 30 through Nov. 2, but families must sign up between Sept. 30 and Oct. 5 to participate!
Families who participate will enjoy $50 family fine forgiveness as well as prizes and access to exclusive events including: Pizza and Bingo Night on Oct. 17 at 6 pm, Family Pennant Making on Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. through 12 p.m., Bookmark and Photo Frame Craft Oct. 19 at 10 a.m., and Pumpkin Decorating on Oct. 19 at 10 a.m.
This Family Rowdy Reading Program kick-off event on Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. features hometown hero and world class talent—bluegrass fiddler Becky Buller along with Minnesota Music Hall of Famer Dick Kimmel and his partner Jerilyn Kjellberg. All are welcome an evening of unique music fun at this free family concert.
This program was made possible by Watonwan County Library and the following supporters: American Library Association, Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, Friends of the St. James Library, St. James Early Childhood Family Education, St. James Public Schools, Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative, Watonwan County Library Endowment Fund, and Watonwan County Library volunteers.
