  • Twelve members of the Tuesday Study Club were present at the September seventeenth meeting at the home of Anne Sorensen. The meeting began with a potluck luncheon. This is the 112th year of Tuesday Club’s existence.

  • Twelve members of the Tuesday Study Club were present at the September seventeenth meeting at the home of Anne Sorensen.  The meeting began with a potluck luncheon.  This is the  112th year of Tuesday Club’s existence.  
    Anne Sorensen told about many innovations and inventions that originated in Minnesota.  Post-It Notes were invented by 3M in 1980, and the pop-up toaster was invented in 1919 in Stillwater.  
    Water skis were invented in 1922 by a Lake Pepin water-sports enthusiast, and the oxygen mask was invented by three Mayo physicians in 1935. 
    Packaged cake mix premiered in 1947 with Betty Crocker’s Ginger Cake, and the pacemaker was invented in 1959 by Medtronic founder Earl Bakken. 
    James Ryan, a University of Minnesota engineer, invented the black box used as a key clue in plane crashes in 1953.  He also invented retractable seat belts in 1963.
    The next meeting will be on October 15 at the home of Clarice Fastenau.  Myrna Eppeland will present the program.
