  • Members of the St. James Women of Today are celebrating Minnesota Women of Today Week this week, September 22 through 28.  During this time chapters across the state will be holding chapter socials, membership drives, and other special events.
The goals of the Women of Today are threefold: to promote community service and involvement, to provide personal growth and fellowship opportunities, and to offer leadership training to members. The individual who wishes to reach out and share his/her talents will find that Women of Today offers tremendous rewards and satisfaction.
Mayor Gary Sturm will be signing the WT Week Proclamation on Monday, Sept. 23, and each member will get a special sign to display at home.
This year the St. James chapter is doing something different -- we are hosting the Minnesota Women of Today (MNWT) Fall State Convention at Jackpot Junction (near Morton, MN) from Friday through Sunday, the 27th through the 29th.
About 150 women from chapters across the state will travel there for a “Project Fair”, with displays by the State Program Managers and Committees, describing ways to get involved in MNWT projects, plus a few marketing tables by area business women.
There will also be a MNWT business meeting, training sessions in several areas of interest, an awards banquet, a Saturday night party, and a featured speaker after the Sunday brunch.  Many hours of work have gone into the planning of meals, schedule, and entertainment, plus making decorations for the tables, making programs, etc. by our members.
The St. James Women of Today have served this community through the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Sharing Tree, Scholarships to high school Seniors, help with the Neighborhood “Block Party” in the park, Valentine’s Day deliveries, Relay for Life, and more.
In addition, funds have been raised for worthwhile causes such as the local school district, flowers at Brandt Ridge, downtown hanging baskets, fire department, and other charities.
For more information about Women of Today, please contact Sue Renz at 375-3395 or look at www.mnwt.org or on the St. James and MNWT Facebook pages.
