The St. James Salutators were on hand Friday afternoon to personally thank the owners of Anytime Fitness--Mike Tonsager and Dan Kern--for investing in the center, and, by extension, the community of St. James. “We are goodwill ambassadors in St. James,” said Salutator Pete Eggen. “We call on businesses, new owners, or, in this case, making a new remodeling call.” Tonsager said he and Kern procured the business in May, and then closed it for nine in October for remodeling--which he estimated cost about $50,000. “We wanted to give it a completely new look and make it comparable to what anyone would see at an Anytime Fitness in a bigger town,” he said. “Our goal for the winter is to remodel the upstairs for fitness classes like aerobics, yoga, and spin classes--we'll need to completely gut and redo the upstairs.” Beth Henderson, a personal trainer who has managed the gym for four years, said the response to the remodeled first floor from members has been positive, and she added that a refurnished upstairs “would be fantastic.” The gym saw an uptick in membership when Tonsager and Kern took over the gym in May, and another surge following the refinishing of the first floor, Henderson said. “Remodeling upstairs would give us more space and more options, and we want to get the youth more involved, too.” For the complete story, please see Thursday's print edition of the St. James Plaindealer.
