Jeannette Maxine Shellum, age 86, died October 23, 2013. A private service was held at United Lutheran Church on October 29, 2013. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery. She was born at home September 27, 1927, in Watonwan County, the daughter of John D. and Thea Amanda Brenden Anderson. She attended School District 4 in Watonwan County, and graduated from the eighth grade. She worked at Harry's Café and then at Tomico Plant in St. James. She married Arthur DeWall and he later died. She married Arol Shellum and they moved to Red Wing, MN, in 1957, where they owned and operated Arol's Bar. Arol died August 8, 1981. After he died, Jeannette operated the bar until she sold it in 1986. She then enjoyed caretaking for many years, well into her 70's for a wonderful person, Pat Riegelman. Surviving are four children: Cheryl (Don) Oliver of Red Wing, Larry (Colleen) DeWall of Dennison, Jill (Danny) Johnson of Red Wing, and Scott (Karleen) Shellum of Red Wing; nieces; nephews; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons, Duane DeWall and Lynel DeWall; daughters, Faryl Owens and Judy Larson; grandchildren, Kevin Owens, Jeffrey Owens and Tammy DeWall; brothers, Ivan (Tudge) Anderson, Joseph (Opel) Anderson, Luverne (Eleanor) Anderson and Donald (Zylpha) Anderson; and one sister, Donna (Herman) Schwieger.
