Bernard Lawrence Zeidler was born November 25, 1919 in St. James to John and Mary (Westerman) Zeidler. He passed away on Thursday Nov. 14, 2013 just 11 days shy of his 94th birthday. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. James Catholic church. Bernard grew up in the rural LaSalle area, attended school in St. James and graduated from St. James High School in 1937. On November 25, 1953 Bernard was united in marriage to Elizabeth Koehn at the St. James Catholic church. They lived on the farm next to Mary's Lake south of St. James where Bernard lived until he became a resident of Pleasant View in December of 2012. Bernard worked at Tony Downs Foods in St. James for 28 years and also helped with the farming operation with his wife, Liz. He retired from Tony Downs in 1983. He was an avid gardener, growing lots of fruits and vegetables and his special muskmelons and watermelons that he shared with his family and friends. He also loved to cook. Bernard enjoyed going to auctions and attending the Butterfield Threshing Bee each year. He had a great memory and loved to share his stories. He enjoyed visiting and spending time with family and friends, especially having morning coffee at Paul's Food Pride. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and very proud to receive his 50 year pin.
