Parents often remind their kids to mind their manners, but that just doesn’t seem to help. That’s because we need to teach manners each day, with every opportunity. That doesn’t mean nag all day long, it means decide what it is that is important to you, and teach it in a way that your child will learn. Do you want him to make eye contact while shaking hands when introduced? Do you wish she’d use a napkin, chew with her mouth closed and swallow before speaking with a mouth full of food? These two examples may seem so basic, but kids across the country are being raised without any idea that their actions may be offensive. Don’t be surprised when your kids show interest in learning, for the day when it does matter. We all attend occasions where manners are expected, including weddings, graduations, social or executive work functions, etc. Why not teach your kids so they are prepared for wherever their path leads them? Don’t leave them in the dark, not knowing and feeling uncomfortable. Manners matter! Read the entire article “Etiquette can prepare them for life”.
