St. James Area punched a ticket to the championship game of their own holiday tournament Friday night by beating Springfield 84-64. Like many of their games this year, the contest was close at halftime before the Saints blew it open in the second half. Head coach Steve Walker said his team seems to have made a habit of starting slow before putting distance between themselves and the opponent in the second half. During Friday's second half, the Saints moved the ball much better and did a solid job of burning time off the clock when they had a comfortable lead; after leading by only two at halftime, the Saints moved ahead by double-digits early in the second half, and they kept that margin throughout. For the game, St. James had 18 assists and forced 27 Springfield turnovers. The Saints play next at 6:15 Saturday.
