The St. James Area Saints captured the title of their own holiday tournament Saturday with a 90-79 victory over the Rockford Rockets; though they were actually down by three at the half, the Saints exploded for 55 second half points, including a 15-0 run. Senior Zach Brandts scored nearly half his team's points, with 43, and he--along with senior Walker Froehling--were both named to the all-tournament team for their efforts. Brandts scored inside on layups, adroit post moves, and putbacks following offensive rebounds, but he also showed his range by stepping outside the arc to make multiple three point shots. “It was a great inside-outside game for (Brandts),” said head coach Steve Walker. “He was just a beast all weekend long.” For the complete story, please see the January 2 print edition of the St. James Plaindealer.
