Dragseth was planning to restore it, bring it to Red River Valley Sugarbeet Museum

A 40 by 100 foot outbuilding at the Allan Dragseth farmstead near Eldred burned to the ground Monday afternoon, and lost with it was antique farm equipment that Dragseth was planning to restore and eventually bring to the Red River Valley Sugarbeet Museum in Crookston.

The building was engulfed in flames when Crookston firefighters, who had been battling the fire at the Irishman’s Shanty, arrived on the scene. They worked to keep the flames from spreading to other nearby structures.

Dragseth told the Grand Forks Herald in a story published Wednesday that a 1976 John Deere tractor with a snowplow attachment had been used earlier Monday to move snow and was parked back in the shed shortly before noon. The fire was noticed about an hour later, and Dragseth said he thinks the source of the fire is tied to the John Deere.
