Late last week, St. James Mayor Gary Sturm weighed in on the decision by Tony Downs Foods to cease operations at their long-standing plant in St. James. The statement began: "The City of St. James is disappointed to hear about the closure of Tony Downs Foods here that affects the jobs of 75 direct employees and an additional 15 contracted employees. We will work with Tony Downs Foods to see if a re-use of the building is feasible after the plant closes its doors May 30."
