In a rare girls-boys doubleheader Monday night at home, the St. James Area girls basketball team lost 56-50 to Cedar Mountain/Comfrey, while the male Saints beat the Cougars 85-73. Though the ladies trailed by 10 at halftime, they managed to grab a brief lead in the second half, but a stretch of anemic offensive late led to their ultimate demise. The male Saints led throughout the first half by a comfortable margin, but a burst in the closing minutes brought C.M.C. within four at halftime. In the second half, St. James pushed their lead to 20 with six minutes remaining, and then coasted the rest of the way. Walker Froehling managed a triple-double with 22 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds, while Zach Brandts poured in 30 points. Jordan Sandmeyer had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The ladies were led by 18 points from their super scoring sophomore Allison Brandts. Brenda Cervantes scored 11, and Julia Beckius had 10. The girls next travel to Madelia Friday at 7:30 p.m., while the boys visit Lake Crystal Tuesday night for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
