Gregory Sizer, age 65, of St. James, died at his home on Monday, March 17, 2014. Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014, at First Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. K. Christian Johnson officiating. Burial, with full military honor provided by the St. James Veterans Honor Guard, will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Gregory Allan Sizer was born June 23, 1948 to Allan Harald and Barbara Lydia (DeWall) Sizer. He lived most of his life in St. James. He graduated from St. James High School in 1966 and attended Rochester Community College and Mankato State University. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968 and served in the Vietnam War prior to his discharge in 1972. He married his beloved wife Carol Lee (Cummings) on July 28, 1972 in Darien, CT. Greg was extremely loving and proud of his four daughters and sons-in-law. He was a humble man with gentle spirit and a giving heart. He worked road construction for 40 years and bartended at the Eagles Club during many winter months. He was a member of the Eagles and a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He donated to many military and wildlife causes. His favorite time of year was Christmas when he got to give the gifts he spent all year making and shopping for. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, bird feeding, gardening, watching football and baseball, listening to the oldies, learning how to text, and driving his Corvette. He loved spending time with his family and is best remembered by them for his quirky sense of humor.
Greg is survived by his wife, Carol Sizer of St. James; children, Heather (Jason) Niemeier of Madison Lake, Dawn (Ryan) Eberhart of St. Peter, Samantha (Aaron) Paris of St. James, Tiffany Sizer and her fiancée Matt Johnson of De Rapids, S.D.; three grandchildren, Alexandra and Allan Eberhart, Devyn Paris; brothers, Spencer (Diane) Sizer of St. James, Kenton (Katie) Sizer of Renton, Wash., Corinne (Curt) Mackey of St. James; aunt, Gladys Watt of Louisiana; many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Allan and Barb Sizer; grandparents, Ben and Mabel Sizer, and John and Daisey DeWall.
