During their meeting April 1, the Watonwan County Board of Commissioners heard about future plans for the region’s highways from Watonwan County Public Works Director Roger Risser, Minnesota Department of Transportation District Engineer Greg Ous, and MnDOT District State Aid Engineer Gordy Regenscheid.

The visit from Ous and Regenscheid coincided with the effort of those two men to visit all 13 counties in district seven.

“We have a good working relationship with Roger Risser; he’s a good leader who has represented you very well,” said Ous, who has built numerous roads throughout his career--he came up through the construction side of the business, and he’s been in Mankato for 27 years. “We have a lot going on in this area (in terms of construction), which is good for the region.”

Regenscheid noted that all three phases of the work on the Watline Trail have gained funding, and Risser said that project will go on over the next few years.

Risser presented the board with a five-year road and bridge plan, and the public hearing on that plan is scheduled for 10 a.m. April 15. The road tour will be later that day at 1 p.m.
